Tall Ships

It has been a long time since I thought about the 'Tall Ships' exhibit. Decades actually went by but recently it was announced that the Tall Ships was making a triumphant return to the T-Dot to mark the War of 1812 and also to celebrate the Toronto Waterfront Festival. It was a gorgeous day on Thursday when I stopped by to take a gander at the magnificence of these ships. All kinds were on display and while it cost $15 to actually board the vessels, I decided to bask in the glory of such wonderful craftsmanship on dry land.

Summer Time

It is beginning to feel a lot like summer ... I was sorting through a stack of photos the other day and came across these ... way back when, Yorkville had an Ice Fest extravaganza like no other.

It was cold that day but looking back at the pics and the fun I had that day, just warms my heart.

After an hour of hard work, here is the finished product. That's the ice carver himself, posing beside his masterpiece.

 Another Beauty!

Culture Days

Toronto's Culture Days is lurking dangerously close and I still don't have a venue confirmed. It was a toss up between mid-town and uptown for a while there but I'm going with my gut and I'm sticking to it. Lots of things going on this year it is making my head spin. Still looking for sponsors which perhaps is something I should have finalized from the get-go.

Better late than never...

Olympics 2012

As a I sit watchin the 2012 Olympic Games, I can't help wondering why Toronto didn't win the bid. I guess it doesn't really matter ultimately because the Games are the Games no matter where you are in the world. Old Canadian faves like Alexandre Despatie and Clara Hughes have returned among speculation that their previous injuries (head and vertebrae respectively) would keep them out of the running. My bets are on Hayden to win another medal and those rowers ... boy have they got it going on in medal contention category.

At six medals and counting, this is the start of something, something ...

Busy Weekend

Toronto will be very busy this weekend with the culmination of two events in the city -- Culture Days and Nuit Blanche. The latter event is a celebration of art with instillations set up all over the city. It has been a few years since I last attended. In fact I haven't visited since the inaugural event back in 2006. It brings back a lot of memories of how new and fresh the event was back then. Event organizers were new at it and still working out the kinks.

I'm not sure what Culture Days is exactly but it appears to be a free for all event that attempts to bring the city together through 'culture'.  Think I'll check 'em both out this weekend. Why not?

EdgeWalk

Call me boring but the idea of dangling outside the observation deck of the CN Tower is not my idea of fun. But at $170 a pop you can have the chance to do just that. The EdgeWalk will make its debut on August 1st and already thousands have signed up to lean over the edge secured by what looks like a flimsy bungee cord. I have heard that to conquer your fears you have to face them head on. No way Jose!!! It is the thrill of a lifetime and of course every news reporter from CTV News to Global News have done this daring and foolish feat. I don't know why. Maybe it was written somewhere in their contract ... Must dangle from the side of the CN Tower or be fired.  Anyway kudos to the brave souls who tried it. I will forever look up to them.

In the Kitchen

With festivals taking over the streets of Toronto, the opportunity to sample international cuisine is a step away. Taste of the Danforth and the Brazilfest are just some of the samplings that are available this year as well as a great new cooking show that is scheduled to take over the CBC tomorrow--"In The Kitchen". I simply cannot wait until Montreal cooking sensation Stefano Faita starts making culinary magic. Faita is a chef who will find his way to many hearts with simple recipes.

To attend a free taping of the show, go to   http://www.cbc.ca/inthekitchen .

Bon Appetit.
